Miia-Mari Virtanen (b. 1991) is a visual artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Photography and is finishing her Master of Arts Degree in Photography at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture.
In her artistic practice, Virtanen considers questions of impermanence and change as well as the relationship between human and technology. She uses photography as her primary medium and supports her work with various techniques, such as digital image processing, video and installation.
Virtanen’s works have been exhibited in group shows and art fairs in Europe and Finland, for example in Persons Projects/Helsinki School (DE), Viennacontemporary (AT) and Paris Photo (FR) in 2018. Currently her series ’White Noise’ is on view at Backlight 2020 International Photo Festival in Tampere (FI), Gallery Himmelblau, 5.9.–25.10.2020.
